Selection Guide for Safety Valves

a. The purpose of a safety valve is to maintain stable pressure inside a container and protect its safety. Therefore, the selection of a safety valve depends on the container's design pressure. If the original safety valve is not available for reference, do not recommend a safety valve to the customer.

b. The design pressure of a container is related to many factors. It cannot be determined solely based on volume, height, or wall thickness.

c. We are not capable of recommending the appropriate pressure!! (If you are unsure, please locate the label on the original safety valve and provide the number before "MPa" or "PSI." If you cannot find it, check the container's label for the "rated pressure" value and inform us. Alternatively, contact the manufacturer's after-sales service for confirmation.)

d. The working principle of safety valves for solar water heaters, electric water heaters, heat pump water heaters, and gas water heaters is the same, so they are interchangeable. However, the models may differ—please take a photo for verification.

e. If the previous safety valve is broken, check its specifications. If unclear, contact the water heater's after-sales service for details.

f. What is the difference between a safety valve with a red lever and one without?

A safety valve with a red lever provides dual protection: it releases pressure at the rated pressure and also at the rated temperature (options include 90°C, 95°C, or 99°C). A safety valve without a red lever only releases pressure at the rated pressure.

​How to Determine if a Safety Valve is Faulty?​​

If the safety valve is leaking and meets the following conditions, it is recommended to replace it:

  1. It has been in use for at least one year.

  2. It leaks even when not heating (cold water state).

  3. The water supply pressure has been stable recently, with no abnormal fluctuations. (If the water pressure is too high, consider installing a pressure-reducing valve.)

​How to Choose a Safety Valve?​​

​For AKE Brand:​​

  • ​WYA-20​ = 6分 = DN20 (nominal diameter) = 25mm outer thread diameter

  • ​WYA-15​ = 4分 = DN15 (nominal diameter) = 25mm outer thread diameter

  • ​0.8 MPa​ = 8 kg pressure release

  • ​99°C​ = 99°C temperature release

​For Other Brands:​​

  • ​1 PSI = 0.006896 MPa​

  • ​150 PSI = 0.006896 × 150 ≈ 1 MPa = 10 kg​

  • ​125 PSI = 0.85 MPa​

  • ​210°F (Fahrenheit) = 99°C (Celsius)​​

​Note:​​ If the customer's safety valve is not from AKE, ask them to take a side photo.
